Default Re-Designed "True" Ram Air Housing

A few refinements on my original design: Increased Air-Box volume by making a lower profile top cover, added gasket to ram intake.
A totally enclosed “true” Ram Air intake, utilizing a 5” dia, X 6”H conical filter (STP), or a 6” dia. X 5”H (Spectre Hi-Flo conical/funnel filter). Some K&N filters may also fit.
The concept of “ram air”, is to utilize the speed of the entry air (relative to the speed of the vehicle), to augment the suction produced by the turbo. Any openings within the enclosed “ram air” housing, defeat the desired effect of this concept. Therefore, it is most efficient to have a totally encapsulated housing to capture the air-flow from the central point of entry (the grille), and force it into the turbo. Any breach within the housing, such as vents or openings within the “air box”, defeats this concept. You might as well install an “open air” filter, and forget about “ram air”.
The housing for the filters mentioned above, is cylindrical, utilizing acrylonitrile butadiene styrene, a cellular core material with relatively low heat absorption, much less than stainless steel, as well as less weight. The fittings, as well, are of the same material. This housing fits vertically, into the space created by removal of the stock air box. All that is required for installation: remove the stock intake box, insert the lower fitting of the “True Ram Air Intake “, into the ram air tube, slide the upper fitting into the stock turbo intake tube, and tighten the hose clamp on the turbo intake tube. Voila! It is a fait accomplis!! 30 minutes max!! Even if you’re a klutz!!

That's because of the material. It is cellular core and does not readily absorb temp change. Keeps the air cool to the turbo.
